Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

Introduction Pancreatic malignancies impose paramount global health burden due to the resultant morbidity and mortality. The determination and identification of the leading epidemiological features and outcomes of pancreatic cancer in developing middle eastern countries, such as Jordan, is of prominence in risk stratification and introduction of effective therapeutic measures. Methods Comprehensive data on 1679 individuals, both males and females, of different nationalities residing in Jordan who were diagnosed with pancreatic cancer during the period of 2000–2018 was retrieved from the official cancer reporting institution in Jordan, the Jordan Cancer Registry. Statistical analysis was performed to establish the epidemiological features, including crude incidence and overall survival, of pancreatic cancer in Jordan over 18 years. Results A total of 1679 individuals with a mean age of 59.5 ± 12.1 years old and a male predominance of 62.4% were included in the analysis. 17.3% of the study population were reported to be smokers at the time of diagnosis. 26.1% of the individuals had tumour at the head of the pancreas despite that a substantial portion of the enrolled individuals (62.7%) did not have a specified tumour location. 3.7% and 3.5% of the individuals were documented to have tumour in the body of the pancreas and tail of the pancreas, respectively, while 21 individuals (1.25%) were reported to have tumour in the pancreatic duct. Despite that a staggeringly significant portion of the individuals did not have a determined tumour grade, moderately differentiated tumours were identified in 21.3% of the patients, followed by poorly differentiated tumours in 12.8% of the patients. An alarmingly significant portion of the study population (44.4%) had distant metastasis at the time of diagnosis whereas only 8.4% of the individuals had localized disease. Adenocarcinoma was the most prevalent morphology (53.6%). Intraductal carcinoma was identified in 7.9% of the patients. A statistically significant increase in the crude incidence of pancreatic cancer in Jordan over 18 years was noted with a crude incidence estimated effect of 0.059. The overall survival rate was 65.9%, 47.1%, 37.2%, and 19.6% at 1-year, 2-year, 3-year, and 5-year interval, respectively. Conclusions Pancreatic cancer in Jordan has witnessed a worrisome and significant incline in incidence with a staggeringly poor overall survival mandating prompt recognition and further investigation.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. The Gemma side is a direct model label for every work in the frame, read from the title-only record. The Codex side is a classifier learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and calibrated to design-weighted sample rates; fields without enough sample support carry no Codex call. Candidate is the union of the two sides; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
