Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

In 2018, Israel celebrates the 70th anniversary of independence. The Arab‑Israeli confrontation continues during this period. Resolution 181 of the UN General Assembly, adopted in 1947, implied a plan for dividing the mandated territories of Palestine into two independent states: Jewish and Arab. The division has grown into a large‑scale Middle East conflict, and the Palestinian issue today is one of the most acute and debated in the international community. The Canadian government, which has established itself as an influential mediator in resolving international disputes, has contributed to the attempts to resolve this conflict. The article analyzes Canada’s policy on the Palestinian issue before the formation of the State of Israel, and also assesses Canada’s role in developing a plan for dividing Palestine into the United Nations. The article considers the participation of the famous Canadian diplomat Lester Pearson in deciding the fate of Palestine, which was one of the first appearances of Canada as an independent actor in international relations. В 2018 г.
