Plusieurs études suggèrent que la pratique d’une activité parascolaire favorise un fonctionnement scolaire optimal à l’adolescence. En s’appuyant sur le modèle dualiste de la passion (Vallerand, 2015), cette étude se penche sur les liens entre la passion harmonieuse et obsessive pour une activité parascolaire et le fonctionnement scolaire à l’aide de plusieurs indicateurs, soit la motivation, le rendement et le risque de décrochage scolaire. Un modèle acheminatoire incluant 129 élèves québécois en cinquième secondaire provenant d’écoles en milieux défavorisés (67% F ; Mâge = 17,19 ans, ÉT = 0,59) a permis de détecter un lien négatif entre la passion harmonieuse et l’amotivation scolaire. De plus, la passion obsessive est associée positivement à la motivation contrôlée et à l’amotivation. La passion obsessive est également associée négativement au rendement scolaire. Ces résultats mettent en lumière la contribution potentielle du type de passion envers une activité parascolaire au fonctionnement scolaire et montrent l’importance de soutenir le développement d’une passion harmonieuse lorsqu’un·e élève développe un intérêt pour une activité parascolaire.
