Abstract
Les études en communication, et les sciences sociales plus généralement, souffrent encore trop souvent d’une opposition malencontreusement entretenue entre, d’un côté, le monde du discours, des idées et de la communication, et, de l’autre, le monde dit matériel, présenté comme celui des outils, de la technologie, de l’architecture, mais aussi de la nature. Autrement dit, parler du monde matériel, c’est presque toujours parler de tangibilité, alors qu’a priori, le monde du discours et de la communication a toujours aussi déjà sa part de matérialité, dans la mesure où il est toujours fait de quelque chose. Cet article vise à mettre en évidence le caractère infondé de l’opposition tranchée monde matériel vs. monde immatériel en analysant le devenir d’un être a priori on ne peut plus abstrait, à savoir une idée dont l’évolution a été suivie tout au long d’un événement créatif organisé au Musée des beaux-arts de Montréal en novembre 2014. Loin d’être complètement immatériel, cet « être idéel » est en fait toujours fait « de quelque chose » et c’est justement grâce à ces diverses matérialisations qu’on peut prétendre pouvoir suivre son devenir et dévoiler son pouvoir organisant.
