Comparison of the efficiency of CAD/CAM and Conventional Brackets

Abstract
Fixed brackets are classified into various types among which the most recently used are CAD/CAM. They have customized slot, exhibit tooth movement independent of bracket position, and demonstrate enhanced bond strength. Thus, assessing the effectiveness and efficiency of CAD/CAM and conventional brackets was the goal of this research. A thorough search was conducted of the following online databases: PubMed, Dentistry and Oral Science, CINAHL, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, and Scopus. Randomized clinical trials and cohort studies on human subjects were considered regardless of language or year of publication. Orthodontic patients in which CAD/CAM brackets were used as intervention and conventional brackets as control group were included. Effectiveness and efficiency was evaluated as the outcome. The risk of bias in clinical trials was assessed using the Cochrane guidelines with the Risk of Bias 2.0 tool and the quality of retrospective cohort studies were evaluated by using Newcastle Ottawa scale. The RevMan software version 5.4 was used to conduct the meta-analysis. Cochrane's heterogeneity test (I2 Test) was used to evaluate the heterogeneity of the studies Five studies that met the requirements for inclusion were incorporated into the qualitative and three into quantitative synthesis. It was found that the bracket failure was slightly higher in the CAD/CAM group. However, this difference was not statistically significant (95% CI,-1.83, 4.14). Within the constraints of insufficient evidence, this systematic review and meta-analysis found that the bracket failure was slightly higher in the CAD/CAM group. It was also noted that this difference was not statistically significant.
