The flipped classroom has been steadily gaining in popularity in recent years. The scientific literature seems to show that students generally perform better academically when exposed to a flipped classroom compared to a traditional classroom, but the methodology used in many studies raises doubts about the validity of the results obtained. The purpose of this publication is to add evidence to the scientific literature by conducting a comparative study between a control group (traditional classroom) and an experimental group (flipped classroom). The results obtained show no significant difference between the academic performance of students in the two groups. Finally, survey results suggest that students felt more competent following a lecture session in the traditional classroom, but those in the flipped classroom reported developing stronger social bonds. La classe inversée gagne sans cesse en popularité depuis quelques années. La littérature scientifique semble montrer que les étudiants obtiennent généralement de meilleurs résultats académiques lorsqu’ils sont exposés à une classe inversée comparativement à une classe traditionnelle, mais la méthodologie employée dans plusieurs études soulève des doutes en ce qui a trait à la validité des résultats obtenus. Le but de cette publication est d’alimenter la littérature scientifique de données probantes en effectuant une étude comparative entre un groupe témoin (classe traditionnelle) et un groupe expérimental (classe inversée). Les résultats obtenus ne montrent aucune différence significative entre les performances académiques des étudiants des deux groupes. Enfin, les résultats d’un sondage semblent indiquer que les étudiants se sont sentis plus compétents suite à une séance de cours magistral en classe traditionnelle, mais ceux de la classe inversée affirment avoir développé de liens sociaux plus forts.
