Abstract
Le retour de mémoire auquel nous assistons dans l’Espagne du 21 e siècle répond à une demande sociale accompagnée d’une évolution politique et législative qui a mené à la récente Loi de mémoire démocratique du 14 juillet 2022. Cet article veut cerner le rôle du cinéma dans la construction de la mémoire des victimes du franquisme pour la sortir de l’ombre, resignifier le passé et contribuer à une meilleure compréhension du temps présent. Trois films récents nous servent d’exemples : un documentaire, un drame et un film d’horreur. L’analyse s’appuie sur la théorie de l’interprétation des films pour examiner le traitement de l’objet mémoriel et montrer comment une esthétique filmique reflétant le dépassement de l’impasse mémorielle que représentent les corps sans tombe permet d’en arriver à un renouvellement de l’image de la mort sociale, physique ou culturelle. La figure de l’enfermement est interprétée comme étant le révélateur d’une altération de l’identité nationale. Les récits mis en images se recoupent pour proposer un discours de l’entre-deux qui favorise un retour de mémoire sur la scène publique.
