Cardiogenic shock (CS) is commonly associated with acute kidney injury (AKI), which is often treated with renal replacement therapy (RRT).1 The use of temporary mechanical circulatory support (tMCS) in patients with CS has significantly increased in recent years and volume and hemodynamic management considerations are frequently different from patients with vasodilatory shock.2 Practice guidelines do not provide specific guidance on the provision of RRT in this population. Herein, we describe the epidemiology and outcomes of RRT in patients with CS; explore current RRT best-practices, guidelines, and clinical evidence; and propose potentially novel RRT indications and timing in the CS population.
