Abstract
La castración u orquiectomía es una intervención quirúrgica rutinaria en la práctica veterinaria, con múltiples beneficios que incluyen la prevención de enfermedades, el control de conductas indeseadas y la mitigación de problemas de sobrepoblación. El presente estudio, de enfoque cuantitativo, busca comparar la eficacia y el bienestar animal en dos técnicas de abordaje escrotal (incisión menor y mayor a 1 cm) en gatos machos sometidos a orquiectomía. Se evaluará una muestra de 40 felinos, con edades comprendidas entre los 6 y 96 meses, en la Clínica Veterinaria Solidaria de Cuenca, Ecuador. A través de la Escala de Vancouver, se evaluará la cicatrización de la herida quirúrgica, mientras que la Escala Facial Felina (Feline Grimace Scale) se empleará para evaluar el dolor postoperatorio en tiempo real. Se compararán las constantes etológicas faciales entre ambos grupos quirúrgicos en los días 0, 4, 8 y 12 postoperatorios. Los datos obtenidos serán analizados estadísticamente utilizando el software IBM® SPSS con el objetivo de determinar cuál de las técnicas de incisión evaluadas presenta menor tiempo de cicatrización, menor dolor postoperatorio y, en consecuencia, un mejor pronóstico para el bienestar del paciente. Los resultados de esta investigación contribuirán a optimizar las técnicas quirúrgicas de orquiectomía en felinos y a establecer protocolos estandarizados que garanticen un manejo postoperatorio más eficiente.
