Este artigo parte da necessidade da escuta dos estudantes do Novo Ensino Médio estadual brasileiro no tocante a modalidade integral que foi implantada na rede pública, independentemente da localidade do alunado e de suas vivências sociais e estratégias familiares educacional. A pesquisa tem como objetivo compreender os modos de subjetivação com os quais o ensino médio tem impactado a formação da(s) juventude(s) em uma escola pública estadual no município de Riacho dos Cavalos-PB. Feita por meio de questionários Google forms e analisada a luz das bases teóricas de (BOURDIEU, 1998; LAVAL, 2004; e RIBEIRO, 2022) que abordam o espírito de família, o impacto do neoliberalismo na educação, como também o projeto educacional para o Novo Ensino Médio (NEM). Traz as falas dos alunos de 1º e 3º ano e suas observações acerca de sua formação. Para efeitos de considerações finais é ousado dizer que pouco sabe a(s) juventude(s) sobre o NEM e muito aspira nesse mesmo período de suas formações; fatores agravados pela ausência de estratégias familiares para superar a desigualdade face ao que está posto em lei e na prática pedagógica da escola. Para os jovens faltam esclarecimentos acerca da Lei que sustenta o Novo Ensino Médio, uma vez que não citam em nenhum momento suas possibilidades de direito ou escolha. Parecem só receber o que lhes é ofertado de forma autoritária. Nesse sentido, as observações construídas caminham na contramão do que vinha sendo pautado para a educação até 2014.
