Abstract
Selon Dörnyei (2005), la motivation est le catalyseur de l'apprentissage d'une L2 qui explique les raisons pour lesquelles une personne choisit d'étudier une langue.Bien que le gouvernement canadien encourage le bilinguisme dans les deux langues officielles, il promeut davantage la langue française en raison de la plus grande présence de l'anglais.Les recherches précédentes sur les motivations des étudiants à apprendre le français au Canada ont déterminé que les meilleures perspectives d'emploi et le rôle du français au Canada constituaient des facteurs de motivation notables.Cependant, il existe peu d'études sur la motivation des étudiants universitaires apprenant le français dans les universités anglophones.Les résultats de notre questionnaire révèlent que ces étudiants sont motivés à la fois intégrativement et instrumentalement et visent à utiliser le français en dehors de la salle de classe.Certains facteurs contribuent fortement à motiver ces étudiants, notamment le rôle de l'enseignant.Les implications pédagogiques et les stratégies futures sont discutées.
