thologies d'Albert-Marie Schmidt, Marcel Raymond, Jean Rousset ou Gisle Mathieu-Castellani.Ugo Pais livre se livre ici une ambitieuse entreprise au regard de l'ampleur du recueil et des multiples difficults poses par le texte, qui constituent un vritable dfi pour le travail d'dition critique.Ce recueil des Amours, reprsentatif du no-ptrarquisme noir , compte en effet 393 pices, 251 sonnets rpartis en huit suites, trois lgies, des chansons, complaintes, stances, tombeaux, motets, ainsi que des lettres amoureuses en prose (le Torrent de sonnets, qui comporte 121 pomes, constituant une sorte de recueil dans le recueil).Le texte est par ailleurs singulirement droutant et obscur, comme l'avait dj soulign Gisle Mathieu-Castellani dans son dition partielle des oeuvres de Beaujeu publie en 1995 (Entour de silence, Orphe.Paris : La Diffrence). la mauvaise qualit de l'dition parisienne de 1589 ayant servi de base ce travail s'ajoutent de multiples obscurits lexicales (de nombreux termes ne sont pas attests l'poque : orgique, Norocritiqque), syntaxiques, et parfois mtriques (nombreux vers faux, ici corrigs), que les notes s'efforcent d'expliciter.Christofle de Beaujeu aime en effet l'nigme et les termes obscurs et se vante dans son avis Au lecteur d'avoir employ des vers hors de rime, et de raison , des Anagrammes, Significations, ou jargon, qui ne sont point intelligibles, qu'aux Desses du Temple o mes sacrifices estoient faits (59).L'obscurit de ce pote bizarre (le terme est employ par Beaujeu lui-mme) provient donc avant tout de cette tendance au cryptage onomastique, qui joue jusqu'au vertige avec les noms propres issus de la mythologie grco-latine.Le savant apparat critique dploy par Ugo Pais pour lucider en note ces multiples allusions l'intertexte mythologique (souvent nigmatiques) est cet gard particulirement prcieux.L'identification des rfrences est d'autant plus dlicate que Beaujeu, de manire tout fait singulire, emprunte galement aux
