Docteur de l'université de Rome « La Sapienza » et chercheur à l'université de Bologne, Marco Albertoni offre un magnifique outil de travail à ses contemporains avec cet ouvrage bibliographique consacré à la Réforme italienne et à la contestation religieuse au xvi e siècle (Italian Reformation and Religious Dissent of the Sixteenth Century).Dès les premières pages du texte, il reconnaît sa dette à l'endroit du volume monumental qui a inspiré son propre ouvrage : The Italian Reformation of the Sixteenth Century and the Diffusion of Renaissance Culture : A Bibliography of the Secondary Literature (ca.1750-1997) publié par John Tedeschi avec la collaboration de James Lattis (Modène : Panini) en 2000.Devenu, dès sa publication, un instrument essentiel pour les chercheurs spécialistes de la Réforme dans la péninsule italienne, l'ouvrage de Tedeschi exerce une influence majeure sur celui d'Albertoni qui souhaite tout simplement offrir un second tome à cette première somme bibliographique.Son livre débute d'ailleurs avec les publications de l'année 1998 pour s'achever en 2020.Aussi, afin d'apprécier toute la densité et l'intérêt de ce nouvel opus, il est utile de le manipuler en ayant dans sa bibliothèque le précédent volume.Le lecteur a également intérêt à lire avec une grande attention l'introduction de Marco Albertoni tant celui-ci prend le temps de justifier ses choix et d'expliquer la construction de son ouvrage.Ainsi, la formule controversée « Italian Reformation » (19) est envisagée selon une lecture très large, qui prend en compte les Italiens réformateurs qui sont restés dans la péninsule comme ceux qui en sont partis et qui ont participé aux bouleversements religieux du xvi e siècle.En revanche, l'auteur assume avec raison que l'ouvrage ne recense pas les travaux qui s'intéressent à la Réforme catholique.Marco Albertoni souligne également l'importance de la section intitulée « Men and Women » qui compte 253 nouvelles entrées (toutes signalées par des astérisques) sur les 592 proposées.Par ailleurs, l'auteur indique que des individus qui n'ont pas adhéré
