Abstract
Nail unit squamous cell carcinoma (NSCC) is the most common nail unit malignancy.Diagnosis is challenging because of variable clinical presentations.There have been important updates in diagnosis and management of NSCC, including increasing evidence for association with human papillomavirus and genital-digital transmission, proposed clinical and histopathologic classifications, the role of imaging for assessment of bony invasion, and conservative surgical techniques for excision.Furthermore, there has been increasing recognition of variations in clinical presentation in skin of color as well as polydactylous NSCC in immunosuppressed patients.In this clinical review, a comprehensive evaluation of the epidemiology, pathogenesis, clinical features, evaluation, management, and prognosis of NSCC are presented.( JAAD Reviews 2025;4:187-94.
