Danau Laut Tinggal adalah salah satu danau di Sumatra Barat yang memiliki potensi ekowisata jika dapat dikelola dengan baik. Karenanya diperlukan rencana pengelolaan ekowisata kawasan yang meliputi kesesuaian wisata, keanekaragaman hayati di sepanjang jalur pendakian dan di sekitar danau, dan kesiapan masyarakat untuk pengembangan ekowisata di Kawasan Danau Laut Tinggal. Metode yang dilakukan meliputi penilaian kelayakan obyek daya tarik wisata, analisis kesesuaian wisata perairan danau, inventarisasi fauna dan keanekaragaman hayati, dan analisis kesiapan masyarakat. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bawah Danau Laut Tinggal sesuai untuk dijadikan ekowisata, didukung dengan kesiapan masyarakat untuk ikut serta dilibatkan dalam pengelolaan ekowisata dan ditemukannya berbagai keanekaragaman hayati berupa 60 jenis flora, 13 jenis mamalia, dan 29 jenis avifauna yang diantaranya satwa terancam punah seperti Rangkong, Elang Ularbido, dan Owa.
