Tout ce que vous avez toujours voulu savoir sur les matrices de rotation (3, 3)... sans jamais oser le demander. 2-ème partie : l'apport des quaternionsJean-Baptiste Hiriart-Urruty Résumé. Nous poursuivons dans cette deuxième partie l'étude des matrices orthogonales (3, 3) de déterminant 1, appelées encore matrices (3, 3) de rotation. Après en avoir obtenu différentes paramétrisations dans la première partie, nous explorons ici l'apport de ces objets mathématiques particuliers appelés quaternions. L'utilisation des quaternions permet de mieux appréhender dans la pratique la succession de rotations ; sont ainsi concernés des secteurs comme la mécanique du vol (dans des entreprises d'aéronautique comme Airbus ou Bombardier, au Centre National (français) d'Etudes Spatiales ou l'Agence Spatiale Canadienne, etc.), la robotique, l'infographie numérique, bref tout domaine où il faut modéliser, étudier et contrôler des objets en mouvement.
