Depuis le lieu de leur incarcération dans le cadre d’une opération d’assainissement de la gestion des deniers publics au Cameroun, Marafa Hamidou Yaya (2014) et Jean-Marie Atangana Mebara (2016) ont pris le parti de dire leur vérité sur les réalités des postes qu’ils ont occupés dans la haute administration. Mais à l’observation, leurs discours révèlent un contraste : les deux anciens hommes d’État, fidèles d’un système qu’ils ont servi pendant des décennies, s’attachent désormais à en dénoncer les tares, non sans se défendre d’être injustement persécutés. L’objet de mon étude est d’examiner les ressorts de la dissonance cognitive (Festinger, 1957) que présentent leurs écrits. De fait, il est question d’analyser comment l’espace carcéral configure une écriture de soi en dissonance avec un interdiscours de l’espace des auteurs (rôles politiques originaires). Au moyen des théories relatives aux postures d’auteur (Meizoz, 2007 et 2009) et à l’ethos (Charaudeau, 2005), je dégage l’écart significatif entre leurs positions, leurs dispositions et leurs prises de position en tant que témoins. Il en résulte alors une certaine incohérence du sujet que ce dernier travaille à réguler pour retrouver son équilibre (Bateson et alii, 1956, Watzlawick, 1980).
