Abstract
Relativement méconnu, Louis Dorléans (1542-1629) passe pour être l’« l’intellectuel engagé » de la Ligue, dont il fut nommé « avocat général » en 1589. L’objectif de cet article est de retracer les différentes formes prises par le groupe au sein des écrits engagés de Dorléans. En effet, la notion de groupe traverse son œuvre, imprimée et manuscrite, dont on n’étudiera ici que les trois principaux moments : comment le groupe renvoie-t-il d’abord à la communauté ligueuse parisienne dont Dorléans fut une des principales plumes ? Dans quelle mesure le groupe est-il ensuite mobilisé dans le dernier écrit ligueur de Dorléans – le Banquet et apres disnée du conte d’Arete (1594) –, pour mettre en scène un cénacle aristocratique fictif au moment de la conversion d’Henri de Navarre ? Enfin, sur quels groupes (compris comme réseaux de solidarité lettrée) Dorléans peut-il compter pour mettre en œuvre sa réhabilitation lors de son retour d’exil ? Ces différentes questions aident à penser les modalités de l’engagement d’un pamphlétaire en fonction d’un groupe, mais aussi la délimitation d’un espace politique dans lequel la radicalité est possible avant d’être proscrite.
