沿岸域での海色衛星データの有効性を示すために,1998年と1999年の富山湾での海色衛星SeaWiFSのクロロフィルαデータを解析した。富山湾の湾外と湾中央では春季と秋季に二回の季節的なブルームが見られ,これは日本海全般に見られる季節的な温度成層の変化に対応した現象である。一方,湾奥では夏季に衛星のクロロフィルα濃度が減少せず,その分布は表面塩分と比較的よく対応していたことから,河川水などからの栄養塩の供給によってクロロフィルαが増加していることが示唆された。また,衛星で観測されたクロロフィルα分布の短期変動によって,反時計回りの流動が存在することと,間欠的な対馬暖流の流入によって湾奥の水が湾外に運び出されることが示された。しかし,定量的には,衛星で観測されたクロロフィルα濃度と比較可能な現場データが少なく,今後しっかりと検証をする必要がある。
