Museet på Sønderskov udgravede i 1996 en velbevaret hustomt fra slutfasen af yngrestenalder på lokaliteten Vestervang nord for Vejen. Der var tale om et toskibet langhusmed væggrøfter, som var forsynet med ydre stolper i østdelen og indre anlæg mellemtagstolperækken og langvæggene i vestdelen. Husfundet var på dette tidspunkt unikti Danmark. Men ti år senere dukkede endnu en hustomt op af samme type, blot 300 mfra den første. Dette langhus har aldrig været publiceret og skal derfor fremlægges oganalyseres i sammenhæng med andre lignende husfund fra slutningen af senneolitikumog den tidligste bronzealder (ca. 1900-1500 f.Kr.). Huse med væggrøfter er indtilvidere et sjældent fænomen i dette tidsrum, og de to eksempler fra Vestervang repræsentererde mest velbevarede af slagsen. Husvariantens sjældne forekomst kan dogvære resultat af bevaringsforholdene, så det er muligt, at væggrøftshusene var merealmindelige og veludbredte end hidtil antaget. Vestervanghusene og deres beslægtedehusfund har tendens til at kombinere den to- og treskibede konstruktion, hvilket er interessant,da de stammer fra århundrederne før den markante arkitektoniske ændringfinder sted omkring 1500 f.Kr., hvor den treskibede byggeskik bliver enerådende. Manhar således eksperimenteret med nye løsninger i husbyggeriet allerede i slutningen afsenneolitikum, hvilket tyder på en glidende overgang til det nye konstruktionsprincip,der skal blive fremherskende de næste 2500 år
