Abstract
Cet article revient sur un projet de photographie participative mené en 2022 avec des communautés san en Afrique du Sud. Ce projet résulte d’une démarche à la fois participative et collaborative entre une équipe de chercheurs (projet COSMO-ART ; ANR-21-CE27-0011), des institutions universitaires et culturelles sud-africaines et deux ONG locales. L’étude a pris place à Platfontein (Cap-Nord, Afrique du Sud), auprès de réfugiés de guerre !xun et khwe originaires d’Angola et de Namibie et devenus en 1997 propriétaires d’un site d’art rupestre sud-africain. Chargés d’étudier la relation entre ces communautés et le patrimoine rupestre, nous discutons dans cet article les apports de la photographie participative pour faire émerger une compréhension du patrimoine « par le bas », qui diffère significativement d’une perspective nationaliste, touristique et économique, pour mettre au contraire en évidence une vision du patrimoine ancrée dans les pratiques quotidiennes et le vécu des personnes.
