Abstract
ABSTRACT Cutaneous psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin condition, with lesions often appearing as scaly plaques with erythematous bases that can occur anywhere on the body, most commonly on extensor surfaces of the knees and elbows. In the scalp, the plaques often extend beyond the scalp margins. This review focuses on the clinical presentation of cutaneous psoriasis subtypes and treatment options. Other related topics include epidemiology, pathogenesis, and differential diagnoses. GENERAL PURPOSE To present the clinical manifestations of cutaneous psoriasis and apply evidence-supported pharmacologic and treatment strategies to promote disease remission and symptom relief. TARGET AUDIENCE This continuing education activity is intended for physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and registered nurses with an interest in skin and wound care. LEARNING OBJECTIVES/OUTCOMES After participating in this educational activity, the participant will: 1. Recognize the clinical manifestations of cutaneous psoriasis. 2. Explain diagnostic approaches to assess for cutaneous psoriasis. 3. Identify evidence-based management pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic options for the treatment of cutaneous psoriasis.
