O estudo tem como objectivo geral: compreender das famílias o contributo do PASD (Programa Apoio Social Directo) na melhoria da qualidade das suas vidas no distrito de Rapale. Como metodologia de pesquisa utilizou – se paradigma interpretativo com abordagem qualitativa. O processo de ingresso ao PASD é com base em concurso de candidatura que passa pela avaliação das condições económicas; as pequenas actividades que geram rendas constituem a principal actividade de rendimento dos beneficiários, quando terminado o período de apoio pelo PASD. Os beneficiários percebem que o INAS através deste programa, contribui positivamente para melhoria das condições de vida dos beneficiários, a medida em que, através deste os beneficiários passam a viver em casas condignas, têm pelo menos três refeições diárias; nas crianças órfãs de pais há, no mínimo, uma melhoria das condições básicas, por isso o PASD tem muita aceitação na comunidade, pois promove acções que aliviam as necessidades básicas (alimentação, habitação, saúde e educação).
