Cet article explore l’univers sonore des derniers recueils de Rimbaud, Une saison en enfer et Les Illuminations , en s’appuyant sur des concepts tirés des études environnementales, sonores et poétiques. Il s’inspire de la notion de ‘paysage sonore’ de R. Murray Schafer, qui désigne l’ensemble des sons d’un espace donné. Il l’utilise pour analyser les sons abiotiques (géophonie) et biotiques (biophonie) dans les poèmes, et ainsi mettre en évidence des présences et des actions qui contredisent l’idée d’un environnement poétique comme un espace abstrait et impersonnel. Le dernier Rimbaud propose une réinvention du lyrisme. Le sujet lyrique, qui se proclame ‘maître du silence’ (‘Enfance v’) ou qui se confronte à une forme d’aphasie, laisse place à l’expression immédiate des phénomènes naturels et des animaux. Le concept de ‘silence lyrique’, emprunté à Pascale Hummel, permet d’analyser cette poétique paradoxale de la dématérialisation de l’expression subjective. Il conclut finalement que les recueils du dernier Rimbaud forment un ensemble unifié sur le plan de l’énonciation lyrique, malgré des poétiques différentes en apparence.
