El presente artículo busca generar un diálogo entre la etnografía que realicé en 2014-2015 de la Colonia Manitoba en Cuauhtémoc, Chihuahua y el libro Ellas hablan de Miriam Toews con el fin de complejizar y dar contexto a la lectura que los futuros lectores de la obra hagan, y a su vez, deconstruir los estereotipos que se tienen sobre lo menonitas en el mundo. Para ello ofrezco al lector el elemento del territorio y sus distintos niveles como la categoría clave de mi análisis, y como forma de situar la violencia de género que se vive en las colonias menonitas. Una segunda categoría de análisis supeditada al territorio es la de la socialización para la vida y para el trabajo entre los menonitas, desde la cual se construyen en parte las condiciones de permanencia de las mujeres en un entorno violento y patriarcal como el de las colonias. Pero mi lectura es apenas un balbuceo feminista más que un intento por ofrecer desde la observación antropológica elementos a partir de los cuales complejizar el diálogo y sobre todo, empatizar con las miles de mujeres menonitas que a diario son maltratadas y violentadas, y no se van, aunque quisieran.
