Abstract
Albert Edelfelt (1854–1905) był jednym z najwybitniejszych artystów fińskich XIX wieku, cieszącym się międzynarodowym uznaniem. Jego kariera związana była głównie z Paryżem, lecz był też bardzo ceniony w Rosji i otrzymywał zamówienia od dworu cesarskiego. Jednym z nich był dużych rozmiarów obraz Pod brzozami, który artysta ukończył w 1882 roku. Płótno umieszczono w jednym z pałaców w Petersburgu, potem jednak przewieziono je w nieznane miejsce w Polsce. Pozostawało zaginione do 2018 roku, kiedy odnaleziono je w Łodzi. Niniejszy artykuł poświęcony jest pochodzeniu i proweniencji obrazu, zanim stał się częścią kolekcji Muzeum Narodowego w Warszawie.
