A pneumonia é uma infecção alveolar multifatorial com manifestações clínicas de amplo espectro. Este estudo tem como objetivo analisar o padrão epidemiológico das internações por pneumonia na Região Sudeste do Brasil entre 2013 e 2023. Trata-se de uma pesquisa descritiva quantitativa retrospectiva, que utilizou dados secundários provenientes do Sistema de Informações Hospitalares do Sistema Único de Saúde (SIH/SUS), disponibilizados pelo Departamento de Informática do SUS (DATASUS), avaliando-se o número de casos de Pneumonia entre 2013 a 2023. Os dados foram organizados e tabulados em planilhas utilizando o software Microsoft Excel® e comparados com as literaturas relevantes. Observou-se uma redução de 10% nas internações entre 2020 e 2021, com uma diminuição de quase 40% em comparação ao período pré-pandêmico, sendo São Paulo o estado com o maior número de casos. Durante o início da pandemia, os custos de internamento aumentaram cerca de 20%, com tendência de crescimento nos anos seguintes. Em relação às faixas etárias, as crianças menores de 1 ano apresentaram a maior redução nas internações, com uma queda de 67,5% durante a pandemia, seguida de aumento após a retomada das atividades escolares e sociais. As internações por pneumonia foram mais prevalentes entre indivíduos que se autodeclararam brancos (42,92%) e pardos (30,43%) e, independentemente da etnia, os homens apresentaram uma maior proporção de casos (52,64%) em comparação às mulheres (47,36%). A taxa de mortalidade atingiu seu pico em 2020 (16,45%), principalmente entre as crianças de 1 a 4 anos e idosos com mais de 80 anos. O presente estudo apresenta como limitações a exclusão de registros incompletos e a dependência de dados secundários. No entanto, destaca lacunas relevantes, como a necessidade de estratégias mais eficazes para a prevenção e o manejo da pneumonia em populações de risco.
