Symptoomaccommodatie door de partner bij een gegeneraliseerde angststoornis: een voorlopig onderzoek naar de correlaties van symptomen en uitkomsten van cognitieve gedragstherapie

Abstract
Uit onderzoek is gebleken dat symptoomaccommodatie de angstsymptomen in stand houdt en de effectiviteit van de behandeling voor angst en aanverwante stoornissen vermindert. Er is echter maar weinig bekend over symptoomaccommodatie bij een gegeneraliseerde angststoornis (GAS). In deze studie is onderzoek gedaan naar de relatie tussen symptoomaccommodatie door een partner, GAS-symptomen, intolerantie voor onzekerheid (IU), relatiesatisfactie en uitkomsten van cognitieve gedragstherapie (CGT) vanuit het perspectief van iemand met GAS. 112 deelnemers met GAS in een CGT-groepsinterventie hebben aan het begin en einde van de behandeling vragenlijsten ingevuld. De deelnemers hebben allemaal aangegeven dat hun partner hun symptomen in enige mate accommodeert. De meest voorkomende vorm is geruststelling. Meer zelfgerapporteerde symptoomaccommodatie door de partner is gerelateerd aan meer GAS-symptomen, chronisch piekeren, intolerantie voor onzekerheid en relatiesatisfactie aan het begin van de behandeling. Gebleken is dat de symptoomaccommodatie door de partner significant is afgenomen in de loop van de behandeling. Ook komt naar voren dat een geringe afname van de symptoomaccommodatie gerelateerd is aan slechtere behandeluitkomsten. In deze studie is voor het eerst aangetoond dat symptoomaccommodatie door de partner voorkomt bij volwassenen met GAS. Ook is duidelijk geworden hoe dit gedrag zich manifesteert en met welke frequentie. Deze bevindingen maken duidelijk dat aandacht voor symptoomaccommodatie door de partner tijdens de behandeling de CGT-uitkomsten kan verbeteren.
