A Unique Mechanism of Ozone Surges Jointly Triggered by Deep Stratospheric Intrusions and the Tibetan Plateau Topographic Forcing
Bibliographic record
Abstract
Abstract Given our poor understanding on mechanisms of stratospheric intrusions (SI) upon near‐surface ozone (O 3 ) surges, predicting the SI‐induced O 3 pollution pose inherent difficulties. Taking a wintertime O 3 surge episode over the Sichuan Basin (SCB) as an example, we find SI contribute 47.8% to near‐surface O 3 levels and reveal the underlying mechanisms. Tropopause folding nearly extends to the deep atmospheric boundary layer over the Tibetan Plateau (TP) due to topographic forcing, driving stratospheric O 3 penetration into the TP's near‐surface. The intruded O 3 is subsequently transported into the downstream SCB by strong downdrafts along the TP's leeward slope. Interestingly, the mountain‐plains solenoid between the TP and the SCB strengthens the downward intrusions of O 3 during both daytime and nighttime, further amplifying the contribution of SI to the SCB's near‐surface O 3 levels. This unique mechanism of O 3 surges could provide new insights for the forecast of unexpected nocturnal high‐O 3 episodes.

Full frame machine prediction
Teacher imitationNot calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. The Gemma side is a direct model label for every work in the frame, read from the title-only record. The Codex side is a classifier learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and calibrated to design-weighted sample rates; fields without enough sample support carry no Codex call. Candidate is the union of the two sides; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels.

Machine scores (provisional)
The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.
Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
score_only:v0-immature-baseline · verbatim from the scoring run: score_only means the number may rank works, and no category label ships from itClassification
machine, unvalidatedMachine predicted; a candidate call from one source (direct Gemma or distilled Codex), not a consensus.
