Les changements climatiques (CC) ont rendu nécessaire la transformation de certaines pratiques professionnelles dans les domaines liés à l’environnement bâti et à l’aménagement du territoire. Pour pallier le fait que plusieurs professionnelles et professionnels de ce milieu n’ont pu dans leur cursus de base bénéficier de formations adéquates pour adapter leurs pratiques à cette nouvelle réalité, l’équipe de recherche a travaillé au développement d’une formation susceptible de les assister à cette fin. La démarche proposée pour parvenir à développer ce matériel de formation reposa sur deux étapes. On demanda à des experts et expertes académiques ainsi qu’à des représentantes et représentants des ordres professionnels des architectes, des urbanistes et des ingénieurs d’indiquer quels étaient, à leur avis, les besoins les plus pressants à combler. La colligation de leurs suggestions a permis de développer un référentiel de formation articulé autour de quatre compétences générales : utiliser des informations climatiques pertinentes dans le cadre de la conception de projets, mettre en oeuvre une démarche d’adaptation qui soit structurée, concevoir des projets intégrant des solutions résilientes et, finalement, collaborer avec toutes les parties prenantes pour optimiser la mise en oeuvre de solutions d’adaptation jugées adéquates.
