Building Damage Assessment of the March 2025 Myanmar Earthquake
Bibliographic record
Abstract
On March 28, 2025, a devastating 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck Myanmar, causing an estimated 3,600-5,350 fatalities and leaving around 200,000 people homeless. A rapid damage assessment by the United Nations University Institute for Water, Environment and Health (UNU-INWEH) utilized satellite radar data to analyze seven major cities, including Mandalay. The analysis estimated that over 157,000 buildings were likely damaged, with damage rates in the assessed cities ranging from 20% to 73%. The catastrophic losses are attributed to the widespread collapse of vulnerable structures, exacerbated by failures to enforce the Myanmar National Building Code. The report advocates for comprehensive mitigation strategies, including the adoption and enforcement of modern seismic codes, retrofitting existing buildings, and improved land-use planning to enhance resilience against future seismic events.

Teacher imitationNot calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. Learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and 10,348 direct Gemma labels. Candidate is the union of thresholded teacher heads; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels or direct frontier model labels.

Machine scores (provisional)
The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.
Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
score_only:v0-immature-baseline · verbatim from the scoring run: score_only means the number may rank works, and no category label ships from itClassification
machine, unvalidatedMachine predicted; a candidate call from one teacher head, not a consensus.
