Depuis les années 1970, la reconnaissance des problèmes environnementaux a fait l’objet de mobilisations de la société civile prenant position contre les dérives des modèles socio-économiques capitalistes ou plus ponctuellement en opposition à des projets controversés. Plus récemment, l’urgence liée au changement climatique a fourni un terrain fertile pour la multiplication de formes d’actions collectives déployées localement et/ou à l’appui de réseaux translocaux. Cet article, basé sur l’analyse de mobilisations déployées dans le domaine agricole et autour de l’alimentation sur un territoire d’ouest Var, montre trois différentes manières de comprendre les enjeux environnementaux, de s’en emparer et de les traduire en actions. L’article propose une analyse des questions environnementales comme « champ d’expérience collective » (Cefaï, 2015), traduisant l’interaction entre mondes sociaux et leur environnement, dans des contextes politiques, économiques et écologiques en transformation. Les mobilisations altermondialistes, l’associationnisme environnemental, les initiatives de transition écologique : ces mobilisations révèlent des traitements différenciés des questions environnementales. Si ces rapports différenciés aux enjeux environnementaux peuvent forger plusieurs manières de penser l’action collective, l’article montre que ces mobilisations peuvent être lues comme des étapes imbriquées d’une même histoire sociale de la question environnementale.
