Dans cet article, nous nous penchons sur La bienveillance des ours, une correspondance entre Virginia Pesemapeo Bordeleau et François Lévesque parue en 2020. Cette collaboration, empreinte de la bienveillance qu’annonce le titre, transmet à la fois les récits intimes de chacun·e et la relation qui se déploie au fil des lettres. Les interlocuteur·rices partagent des souvenirs d’enfance, s’ouvrent sur ce qui motive leur écriture et discutent de leurs oeuvres dans des lettres qui sont autant autobiographiques que collaboratives. Nous nous intéressons d’abord à la familiarité et au rapport intime à l’autre qui se créent au fil des échanges. Nous nous penchons, ensuite, sur la façon dont les auteur·rices abordent leur position respective en lien avec le contexte social et politique, en particulier avec le contexte passé et présent du colonialisme de peuplement. Puis, en nous inspirant de la pratique d’écriture collaborative de cette oeuvre, nous proposons de penser une éthique de la lecture bienveillante. À partir de leur échange, à la fois intime et politique, qui se déroule dans le rapport bienveillant de chacun·e aux textes de l’autre (autant leurs oeuvres littéraires que leurs lettres échangées), nous proposons de réfléchir à ce que ce concept – cette pratique – peut signifier dans le domaine de l’analyse littéraire.
