L’intensification des événements climatiques extrêmes accroît les défis de gestion des ressources en eau, exacerbant les vulnérabilités des systèmes hydriques et nécessitant des approches innovantes et participatives pour garantir la sécurité des populations. L’aménagement des cours d’eau s’avère être une thématique à l’interface d’enjeux environnementaux, climatiques et socioéconomiques complexes. Cette étude explore cette dernière en tant que thématique pour l’enseignement de la géographie et de l’éducation à la durabilité (ED) au secondaire I (élèves de 12 à 15 ans). En adoptant une approche transdisciplinaire, des entretiens ont été réalisés avec des expert·es de l’aménagement des cours d’eau et en didactique de la géographie et de l’ED. Les résultats révèlent la complexité de cette thématique dont les enjeux varient en fonction des contextes géographiques. De plus, elle offre des opportunités intéressantes pour enseigner une géographie problématisée et d’action dans une perspective d’ED par le traitement d’une question socialement vive (QSV). Par l’étude d’enjeux contextualisés, elle favorise également l’enseignement à l’extérieur qui ouvre sur la complexité du monde extérieur de la classe.
