Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

Abstract This study experimentally investigates the effects of an optimized circular serpentine dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma actuator on the unsteady aerodynamic performance of a NACA0012 airfoil. Wind-tunnel tests are conducted at low subsonic velocities, with Reynolds numbers ranging from 61 × 10 3 –175 × 10 3 . These tests include surface pressure measurements and velocity data collection using a hot-wire anemometer in the wake region. The study examines the influence of Reynolds number, pitching frequency, pitching amplitude, reduced frequency, and plasma actuation on dynamic stall behavior and flow reattachment. Results indicate that the serpentine DBD plasma actuator effectively delays dynamic stall by up to 2° by injecting 3D vortices into the near-wall flow. This energizes the boundary layer and stabilizes unsteady structures, leading to significant aerodynamic improvements. These include an increase of up to 11.5% in the maximum lift coefficient at Re = 131 × 10 3 and f = 1.5 Hz, as well as lift enhancements of up to 30.2% during the upstroke and 57% during the downstroke. Additionally, velocity measurements show that the plasma actuator delays and suppresses flow separation while enhancing reattachment.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. Learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and 10,348 direct Gemma labels. Candidate is the union of thresholded teacher heads; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels or direct frontier model labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
