Abstract
Cet article revisite une étude sur les relations interethniques de quartier et la gestion de la diversité à Saint-Laurent, Montréal (Mounier, 2021), en utilisant les théories féministes matérialistes sur l’articulation des rapports de sexe, ethniques, de race et de classe. L’objectif est non seulement de valoriser cette pensée critique francophone marginalisée dans les études ethniques dominées par la littérature anglophone, mais aussi d’approfondir les résultats initiaux montrant que les rapports de sexe (genre) sont au coeur des mécanismes interethniques. En mettant en lumière les processus d’appropriation et d’altérisation de certains groupes sociaux, cette étude révèle les limites des programmes de gestion de la diversité qui font reposer la responsabilité des relations interethniques en grande partie sur les femmes, en particulier les mères. L’article conclut par une réflexion sur la pertinence des perspectives féministes matérialistes et l’importance accordée à la pensée francophone en études ethniques.
