Dans le contexte scolaire, l’approche par compétences (APC) s’impose aujourd’hui comme une orientation pédagogique dominante. Toutefois, dans le système éducatif malgache, sa mise en œuvre reste largement théorique et peu concrète, comme en témoignent les pratiques quotidiennes, notamment dans le domaine de l’éducation à l’environnement. L’objectif de cette recherche consiste à examiner les retombées des orientations pédagogiques de l’éducation environnementale fondée sur l’APC. L’expérimentation menée sur trois années scolaires a été réalisée auprès des élèves du lycée technique et professionnel Ambositra. Ces derniers ont bénéficié d’une éducation environnementale articulée autour de la gestion intégrée des ressources en eau (GIRE) en mobilisant les démarches propres à l’APC. Les résultats montrent que l’intégration de la GIRE, en tant que discipline scientifique transversale, favorise la maîtrise des disciplines techniques. De plus l’adoption des courants pédagogiques du cognitivisme, du constructivisme et du socioconstructivisme dans le processus d’apprentissage contribue à former des citoyens responsables, autonomes et engagés. Ces approches favorisent l’association entre les compétences et le savoir-agir, condition essentielle à la promotion d’un développement durable et à la pérennité environnementale.
