Abstract
O envelhecimento está associado ao declínio nos sistemas cardiorrespiratório e musculoesquelético, fato que pode comprometer a capacidade funcional do idoso. Objetivo: verificar a associação entre força muscular isométrica, VO2 pico e capacidade funcional em mulheres idosas. Métodos: Nossa amostra consistiu de 30 mulheres idosas, com idade de 65,4 (± 2,8) anos. Para determinar o VO2 pico, foi realizado um teste ergoespirométrico em esteira. A força isométrica foi avaliada usando um dinamômetro portátil “Hand Held Dynamometer”. A capacidade funcional foi verificada por meio dos testes: TUG (Timed Up and Go), TVM 10m (teste de velocidade de caminhada de 10 metros) e TSLC (teste de sentar e levantar da cadeira). Resultados: Os seguintes valores foram mostrados nas correlações: VO2 pico ml.kg.min-1 vs. força isométrica de membros inferiores (r= 0,62; p= < 0,001); VO2 pico ml.kg.min-1 vs. TUG (r = -0,63; p= < 0,001); VO2 pico ml.kg.min-1 vs. TVM-10m (r = -0,49 p = 0,005); VO2 pico ml. kg. min-1 vs. TSLC (r= - 0,52 p= 0,003); força de membros inferiores vs. TUG (r= -0,50; p=0,005); força de membros inferiores vs. TVM-10m (r= -0,50; p= 0,005); força de membros inferiores vs. TSLC (r= -0,48; p=0,006). A regressão linear múltipla mostrou um R2 de 49,8% para a variável dependente VO2 pico e os seguintes valores: força isométrica de membro inferior (B= 0,25; p=0,012) e o teste TUG (B= -2,161; p= 0,008). Conclusão: Os níveis de força muscular dos membros inferiores estão associados ao VO2 pico e à capacidade funcional de mulheres idosas.
