Abstract
Le présent article s’appuie sur la théorie postcoloniale et la terminologie de Chantal Zabus relative à la vernacularisation de la langue française en Afrique subsaharienne pour examiner la contribution des francophones d’origine africaine à la vitalité du théâtre fransaskois depuis le milieu des années 2000. Il se penche en particulier sur les façons dont les comédien·nes et dramaturges noir·es francophones de Saskatoon utilisent la scène théâtrale fransaskoise, notamment celle de La Troupe du Jour et d’Unithéâtre, pour accroître leur visibilité et assurer une plus grande diversité dans le paysage théâtral fransaskois. L’analyse des pièces écrites et jouées par ces personnes africaines francophones, ainsi que les commentaires issus de nos entrevues avec elles, révèlent que ces acteurs et actrices utilisent de multiples stratégies dans leurs textes et sur les planches pour marquer leurs différences et résister à l’assimilation culturelle et linguistique. Cette contribution se situe à l’intersection de trois disciplines, à savoir : les études théâtrales, l’analyse du discours et la sociolinguistique.
