Cet article étudie la diversité des formes d’aide aux usages du numérique dans lesquelles sont impliquées les personnes âgées. Fondé sur l’analyse d’un corpus de 40 entretiens semi-directifs réalisés en France métropolitaine avec des personnes appartenant à trois générations (1935-1939, 1945-1949 et 1955-1959) et aux profils sociodémographiques variés, il suit un double fil analytique. D’une part, il prend en compte la plus ou moins grande familiarité avec le numérique des personnes enquêtées, en l’appréhendant à partir du concept de capital numérique. D’autre part, il s’intéresse aux modalités concrètes des aides et à leur inscription relationnelle de façon à établir une cartographie des aidants et à dégager les logiques sous-jacentes à l’organisation des relations d’aide. Dans un premier temps, il établit que les aides au numérique prennent des formes différentes selon le niveau du capital numérique : la délégation lorsque le capital numérique est inexistant ou inexploité ; la recherche de soutien et l’apprentissage lorsqu’il est à consolider ; une posture de possible donneur d’aides lorsqu’il est plus élevé. Dans un deuxième temps, il souligne l’importance de l’aide familiale, et notamment celle des enfants, en matière numérique. Plus fondamentalement, il montre que ce sont les caractéristiques et la dynamique des relations familiales qui éclairent l’organisation de l’aide et expliquent, dans certains cas, le recours à des aidants non familiaux et à des professionnels rémunérés.
