Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

Abstract. Quarter life crisis (QLC) is a psychological phenomenon commonly experienced by individuals aged 20–30, marked by confusion about life direction, social pressure, and uncertainty about the future. This condition may hinder developmental tasks and readiness for post-college life. This study aimed to determine the level of QLC and examine the influence of coping strategies on QLC among final-year university students. A quantitative approach with a causal design was used, supported by informal interviews. The participants were 410 final-year students from top-accredited universities in Bandung, selected through convenience sampling. Data were collected using the Quarter Life Crisis Scale and the Brief COPE Inventory, and analyzed using non-linear regression. The results showed that most students were at a moderate level of QLC. The dominant coping strategy used was emotion-focused coping. Regression results indicated a significant influence of coping strategies on QLC (p < 0.05), accounting for 5.8% of the variance. Interview data supported this finding, showing that students often stabilize their emotions before addressing problems directly. The study concludes that while coping strategies play a role in reducing QLC intensity, other psychological factors also contribute. Preventive psychological interventions are recommended to help students manage the pressures of early adulthood.
