Abstract
It's Time to Draw the Line Jacki- E is a UK- based DJ and producer based in Northampton, UK. Every single week from April 2018 to October 2024 she has researched, compiled, recorded and broadcast an episode of Draw the Line – a two- hour show aired on internet radio stations in the UK and Canada with the express aim of raising the profile and increasing awareness of women, trans and non- binary electronic music artists. As the name of the show suggests, it's a call to arms – ‘It's Time to Draw the Line’ under the cis- male domination of electronic music and do something concrete to bring about change. Each episode of Draw the Line starts with a one- hour mix from Jacki- E herself playing only music made by non- cis- male producers. In the second hour she airs a mix prepared by a guest DJ from the worldwide, female and gender- expansive community. During the series’ run, Jacki- E produced over 300 shows, which is astonishing stamina and shows quite remarkable dedication. In my experience, once you know what you’re doing, it takes at least a full day to research, plan and record a radio show, plus hours spent trawling online record stores and social media to find music to play. There is also the financial outlay to buy that music and then you pay the radio station for your airtime. Quite simply, Draw the Line has been a huge labour of love gifted by Jacki- E to the electronic music community. You only need to listen to an episode to hear new music by new artists, all from under- represented genres curated and collated into one place.
