Abstract

Cet article plonge au coeur du regroupement des startups montréalaises axées sur l’intelligence artificielle (IA) et décortique la manière dont ses entrepreneurs élaborent leur discours et façonnent leur vision de l’avenir technologique. La fascination pour les prouesses de l’IA, que nous explorons en détail dans cet article, rappelle de plusieurs manières la citation célèbre de William Gibson qui relève que « le futur est déjà là – il n’est simplement pas réparti de manière égale ». Nous utilisons le concept d’« imaginaire sociotechnique » pour décrire comment cette communauté parvient à capitaliser sur le potentiel de l’avenir technologique, qui se révèle un véritable gisement de richesses symboliques et économiques. Du reste, au sein de ce regroupement entrepreneurial émerge un rôle majeur : celui d’incarner les messagers du destin technologique de l’humanité, une minorité d’acteurs captivant l’attention avec des représentations futuristes spectaculaires. Nous mettons également en lumière l’existence d’un « capital technologique » pour illustrer comment cet imaginaire se fond dans l’identité professionnelle de l’entrepreneur, l’élevant au rang de prophète parmi la société, qui lui confère prestige et statut. Les visions du futur deviennent les symboles ostentatoires d’une technologie hautement sophistiquée, employés pour se distinguer et revendiquer une supériorité sociale.
