Abstract
In 2017, the Kiriri Acr Indigenous people migrated from Muqum do So Francisco, in the state of Bahia, to the rural neighborhood of Rio Verde, in Caldas, southern Minas Gerais.Their stay on this land, which is legally owned by the state, was authorized by its true owner: an ancient tapuia who appeared during the cincia4a key ritual moment in which the Kiriri communicate directly with various more-than-human beings who also inhabit the cosmos.In exchange for allowing them to remain, the old tapuia asked the people to care for the forests and waters of the area.The cincia is also a moment for the production and sharing of knowledge between humans and others-than-humans, which is why adults and children of all ages participate.It is said that children born on this land will be able to tell its story even better than the adults who live there now.According to the village chief, Adenilson, this new territory represents "a chance to start over."Thus, the story of this place must be told from here on.This doctoral dissertation aims to follow this story alongside the people, as narrated not only by Adenilson but also by others who live in the Ibiram Kiriri do Acr village.To speak of the history of a place is also to speak of the human and more-than-human connections that people create as they move through different territories.Therefore, telling the story of a place is to speak of time, land, and person4an equation explored throughout this work.
