Abstract

fetched live from OpenAlex

Abstract This chapter presents an in-depth exploration of hermeneutics as a pathway to understanding human experience through interpretation. From Schleiermacher’s foundational ideas of double understanding and respect for the other, to Ricoeur’s symbolic analysis and narrative identity, the text traces the evolution of hermeneutics across philosophy, language, and the human sciences. Emphasizing the historical, cultural, and psychological contexts in which meaning emerges, it distinguishes hermeneutics from explanatory approaches typical of the natural sciences. Key thinkers—Dilthey, Heidegger, Gadamer, and Ricoeur—contribute nuanced visions of understanding, each expanding the scope of interpretation from textual meaning to existential depth. The chapter also reflects on the methodological challenges inherent in interpretation, especially in clinical or therapeutic contexts, where the observer must remain open to symbolic richness without imposing fixed frameworks. Ultimately, hermeneutics is framed not only as a theoretical approach but as an ethical stance, fostering a deeper, more dialogical and transformative engagement with personal and shared realities.

Not calibrated prevalence, not ground truth. Human validation pending. The Gemma side is a direct model label for every work in the frame, read from the title-only record. The Codex side is a classifier learned from the 10,348 direct Codex labels and calibrated to design-weighted sample rates; fields without enough sample support carry no Codex call. Candidate is the union of the two sides; consensus is their intersection. These outputs are machine_predicted_unvalidated and are not human labels.

Machine scores (provisional)

The two teacher heads of the student model, read on this work. A score orders the frame for review; it never asserts a category, and the validation status ships verbatim with every row.

Baseline scores from an immature model (maturity gate not passed, 7 training rounds). Scores rank; they never assert a category.
