Radiocarbon Dating from Saharna Mare-Dealul Mănăstirii and the Reut-Dniester Hypothesis of the Origin of the Saharna-Solonceni Culture

Abstract
The article discusses the recently introduced into scientific circulation radiocarbon dating of the complexes from the settlement of Saharna Mare-Dealul Mănăstirii of the Saharna-Solonceni culture. It is shown that these datings, referring the beginning of life in the settlement, and, accordingly, the beginning of the early horizon of the Incised and Stamped Ceramics Cultures (ISCC) of the Reuto-Dniester interfluve to the end of the 12th century BC, fully correspond to the Reuto-Dniester hypothesis of the origin of the Saharna-Solonceni culture (and the ISCC of the Carpathian-Dniester region as a whole), proposed by the author a quarter of a century ago. The author also reminds that this early horizon of the ISCC of the Reuto-Dniester interfluve, the “Solonceni-Hlinaya horizon”, as he designated it earlier, is very different in the appearance of its material culture from the Holercani-Hanska group (which was also demonstrated by the author a quarter of a century ago), and therefore cannot be included in the Holercani-Hanska group. On the contrary, as the author suggested, the Holercani-Hanska group should be considered an early derivative of the Solonceni-Hlinaya horizon.
