As the transition toward a sustainable, green grid accelerates, integrating innovative technologies and leveraging data science are crucial. Technologies such as Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and microgrids are deployed to maintain service during grid outages. However, operating these systems traditionally requires a meticulous, labor-intensive review of SCADA telemetry data from a frontend DMS (Distribution Management System) application to assess performance and optimize operations. The development of a Data Analytics Platform for monitoring and managing BESS and microgrids focuses on integrating advanced analytics to enhance operational efficiency, reliability, and sustainability. This platform enables real-time monitoring, performance analysis, predictive maintenance, and optimization of both energy storage systems and microgrid operations.To streamline and improve the robustness of this process, a Python-based automation script was developed to parse backend DMS SCADA signals, automatically detect outages, and assess BESS islanding performance. The performance report is visualized through a Power BI dashboard, enabling rapid analysis, consistent performance evaluations, and effective benchmarking of grid technologies. This automation also provides management and engineers with clearer insights into device behavior during grid outages by comparing actual performance with design expectations.
