Le Traité sur la monnaie, publié en 1930, a longtemps été délaissé par les économistes et les policy-makers, au profit de la très célèbre Théorie Générale, publiée, en 1936. Keynes lui-même y voyait « un échec artistique ». L’objet de cet article est de mettre en lumière l’intérêt du Traité sur la monnaie pour analyser et rendre intelligible les phénomènes et débats économiques contemporains. L’attention sera portée sur les apports théoriques fondamentaux du Traité de la monnaie tels que la dynamique des cycles économiques, les équations fondamentales et la monnaie. Dans le cadre d’une économie directement monétaire, Keynes établit une théorie des prix, de la dynamique macroéconomique et de la monnaie particulièrement éclairante pour appréhender la financiarisation, l’instabilité financière ou l’inflation, mais très largement oubliée par les économistes critiques du capitalisme financiarisé actuel, qui préfèrent se référer à Minsky ou au Keynes de la Théorie Générale.
