Abstract
Au Canada, l’année 2025 marque pour l’optométrie un siècle de formation universitaire. En effet, en juin 1925, l’Université de Montréal a accueilli, comme école affiliée, le Collège d’optométrie, administré par l’Association des optométristes et opticiens de la province de Québec. Ce centenaire est l’occasion de retracer l’histoire de l’École d’optométrie de l’Université de Montréal (ÉOUM) et d’apprécier son évolution comme établissement d’enseignement supérieur et de recherche. La première partie de ce survol historique couvre la période de 1925 à 1990 et présente les voies empruntées par l’ÉOUM pour passer d’une simple école professionnelle à une entité alignée sur les autres écoles d’optométrie nord-américaines.
