Abstract
En el marco de los estudios históricos sobre traducción en América Latina, este artículo se propone dar cuenta de la presencia de las traducciones de la obra del escritor italiano Silvio Pellico entre Europa e Hispanoamérica a mediados del siglo xix . Se argumentará, a partir de este estudio de caso, que para explicar la circulación de una serie de traducciones de textos y autores italianos en Hispanoamérica en ese periodo es necesario volver la mirada hacia procesos históricos poco considerados hasta el momento por la historia de la traducción del continente, como la secularización del espacio político y social y la historia de los conflictos entre Estado e Iglesia en las repúblicas católicas hispanoamericanas.
